発刊にあたって

　豊かな自然、歴史、伝統に育まれた大熊町は、昭和29年に2か村が合併し、力強く第一歩を踏み出してから今年で46年目を迎えました。

　この間、大熊町は着実な歩みを進め、昭和39年12月に着工をみた福島第一原子力発電所建設を契機として、画期的な行政施策により、「快適生活環境の整備」「健康づくりと福祉社会の充実」「教育文化の向上」「産業の振興」に努めてまいりました。

　さらに、21世紀の社会環境の変化などを常に視野に入れて、町民はもとより町外からの人口の定着と、その基礎となる産業振興や生活環境の充実に向けて、町民と行政、企業、各種団体などが連携を取り合いながら、まちづくりに力を注いでいます。

　本町のモットーは、「対話による和の町政」です。さらなる飛躍が期待される21世紀という新たな時代に向けて、これからも「活力ある、快適で住みよい町づくり」を推進していきます。

IN PUBLISHING THIS LITERATURE

Our Okuma Town - blessed with the best part of Mother Nature, the pulse of history you can feel, and tradition - celebrates its 46th anniversary this year. OkumaTown first saw the light of day when two villages were merged to make the town in 1945.

Okuma Town has been making steady strides ever since its inauguration. We at Okuma Town have tried to attain objectives such as the improvement of the life environment for comfort, perfection of health and welfare of the people in the community, elevation of the education and cultural level, and promotion of industries, by taking as a momentum the epoch-making administrative measures of completing successfully the No.1 Atomic Power Plant in Fukushima that started in December 1964.

What's more, our townspeople, municipal administration, enterprises, and other related groups are making every effort currently to create a better town, joining their hands. We need to stabilize our population (those already in town and those coming in from the outside). This calls for the industrial promotion and improvement of the living environment and keeping constant watch on the changes of our communal environment in the 21st century.

The motto of our town is "the municpal administration of peace through dialogue". From now on, we will continue to create a dynamic, pleasant, and comfortable town toward the new age of the 21st century, in which we expect to make more rapid progress.
