HOMETOWN HONOR AWARD

萩原　美樹子さん
MS. HAGIWARA MIKIKO

　福島市出身の萩原美樹子さんは、元全日本バスケットボールの代表選手。日本リーグでも最優秀選手賞、 得点王を受賞するなど、日本のバスケットのリーダー的存在として活躍し、WNBA（米女子バスケットボ ールリーグ）に日本人で初めて参加。市民に明るい希望と活力を与えたとして、平成11年に初のふるさと栄誉賞受賞者に選ばれました。

　Ms. Hagiwara Mikiko, born and bred in this city, has achieved nationwide fame as a representative basketball player in Japan. She played a leading role in Japan's national basketball league and received the award for MVP and also the award for No.1 point getter. She was, in addition, the first Japanese that participated in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), USA. In honor of her outstanding achievement, which gave us citizens bright hopes and encouragement, Fukushima City offered to her the first Hometown Honor Award in 1369.

秋山　庄太郎さん
MR. AKIYAMA SHOTARO

　日本を代表する写真家、秋山庄太郎さんは、昭和50年ごろからほほ毎年、市内渡利にある花見山を訪れ、 「福島には桃源郷がある」という言葉とともにその美しさや福島市を紹介し続けてきました。
　その結果、花の名所として全国的に知れ渡った花見山には毎年10万人を超える観光客が訪れるまでになり ました。本市のPRに大きく貢献したということで、平成13年に2人目のふるさと栄誉賞受賞者となりました。

　Mr. Akiyama Shotaro, a leading photographer in Japan, has visited Hanamiyama in Watari, located within the city, almost every year since about 1975. The description "There is Utopia in Fukushima", befits Hanamiyama for its radiating beauty as Fukushima City is continually featured.

　As a result of the publicity, Hanamiyama has become well known nationwide for its flowers, surpassing 100,000 visitors every year. In honor of his tremendous contribution to our City, Mr. Akiyama was the second person to be presented with the Hometown Honor Award in 2001.
